Frequently asked questions
What is Sunbucks and what am I buying?
Sunbucks is a global platform that helps schools, businesses, hospitals, and other stable organisations go solar without having to carry the full upfront work alone. When you buy Sunbucks, you are buying a specific identified solar cell connected to a real solar installation. Your individual cells are recorded with their own Cell ID / asset reference - so it is clear what you have purchased.
How does buying Sunbucks generate money for me?
After you have purchased your Sunbucks, you may choose to lease your identified solar cell back to Sunbucks. We then use, manage, maintain, and operate them as part of a working solar installation. In return, Sunbucks pays you equipment-rental fees during the fixed lease term. Nice and simple: your cells get used, and you get paid rental fees for that use.
How long will my Sunbucks give me rental fees?
It varies by site, but most lease terms may be around 10 to 18 years depending on the installation size and location. Before buying, you can check the agreed term, Site Start Date, and Site End Date for the site you choose. When the term ends, rental fees stop, and the cells transfer to the host organization.
When is my Wallet updated?
Your Dashboard updates immediately after purchase and shows your rental-fee balance. Some amounts may appear as pending first because the first 100 days are a withdrawal-hold period.
Why do I already see rental fees after buying?
Some sites may already be operating before you buy your cells. If that applies, your Dashboard may show rental fees that have built up from the site start date up to your purchase date. The important bit: the site end date stays the same, so buying later does not extend the term.
How often can I withdraw from my Wallet?
Currently, withdrawals can be requested once per month, once the funds are available and the 100-day hold has passed.
How much will I earn?
It depends on the site you choose. Each site has its own cell price, rental-fee schedule and lease term. Before you buy, the project information shows the key numbers, so you can understand the expected rental-fee plan clearly. You may also check the respective Sunbucks calculator set up for the specific installation.
Can I sell my Sunbucks?
Sunbucks does not currently operate a resale marketplace. In special cases, Sunbucks may allow a transfer, but this must be approved first. So, unlike a bicycle or an old keyboard, you cannot simply list it online and send it to a stranger.
Where can I track my rental fees?
Log in at sunbucks.com and go to My Dashboard. There you can see your purchased Sunbucks cells, rental-fee balance, and estimated environmental impact. It is your main control room - minus the big red buttons.
What is IRR?
IRR means Internal Rate of Return. On Sunbucks, it is used to help explain the overall rental-fee schedule for a site over time. It is a useful calculation tool, but Sunbucks are not shares, tokens, securities, or profit-share products.
What does 'end-weighted' mean?
End-weighted means more of the rental fees are scheduled later in the term rather than evenly across every year. In normal language: the payment plan starts lighter and becomes stronger toward the end – your cells mature with age. Think of it like fine wine - the longer you wait, the more valuable it becomes.
How secure is each Sunbucks installation?
Every Sunbucks installation is carefully selected, planned, and managed. We only work with stable organisations and suitable locations where a solar system can be installed safely and securely. From planning to installation, Sunbucks oversees the process and makes sure the project is properly set up. Once the system is live, we continue to monitor, maintain, and insure it throughout the lease term. Of course, no solar installation is completely risk-free. Weather, grid problems, maintenance needs, or technical issues can happen. We mitigate these risks as much as possible by using only the best equipment available.
Is there a minimum purchase?
Yes. The minimum purchase is the cost of one available solar cell for the selected project (1 Sunbuck). The cost per Sunbuck starts as little as €2.
Can I buy Sunbucks from any country?
Sunbucks may not be available in every country because local laws, tax rules, payment rules, and compliance requirements can vary. Please check the Terms and site information before purchasing.
If I withdraw my rental fees, will future rental fees be affected?
No. Withdrawing available rental fees does not stop future rental fees from building up during the lease term. Taking money out of your Wallet does not make your solar cell go on strike.
I represent a business or organisation. Can Sunbucks help us go solar?
Yes, possibly. If your school, business, hospital, or organisation wants to explore solar with Sunbucks, email hello@sunbucks.com with your location and power usage. The more information you provide, the easier it is to understand what may be possible.
Can companies use Sunbucks for ESG or CSR goals?
Yes. Companies can work with Sunbucks to support clean-energy projects, schools, community impact, and sustainability goals. Any official ESG reporting, carbon-credit claim, sponsorship, or certification would need to be agreed separately in writing.
I have a CSR budget. Can I fund a project?
Yes. If your company wants to support a Sunbucks project through CSR funding, email hello@sunbucks.com and the team will explain the available project options and next steps.
